Bergen Un-Exhibition Art Festival
Date
2024
Location
Norway- Bergen
This project explores the concept of the non-exhibition—an artistic gesture that occupies the institutional negative space. While anyone can apply to exhibit in venues like KODE, access is often restricted by selection processes and structural limitations. In response, the non-exhibition asserts a parallel right: the right not to exhibit.
Unlike traditional exhibitions, non-exhibitions are infinite, simultaneous, and unbounded. They function as transparent layers over institutions—open to all and resistant to exclusion.
The Bergen Un-exhibition Art Festival emerged from this idea: an event composed of invisible gestures and imaginary spaces. For two weeks, Bergen became a canvas for collective absence, inviting participants to exist as transparent figures in the void—challenging conventional notions of visibility, presence, and legitimacy in the art world.
